Bio
Donna Ward established the micro-press Inkerman & Blunt Publishers in 2013, and indigo, the journal of Western Australian creative writing, in 2007. She holds a BA in Classics, Ancient History and Economics, and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Western Australia, and her early career included being a psychotherapist, social worker, and organisational consultant. Her prose has appeared in Griffith Review, Southerly Magazine, Island Magazine, Westerly Magazine, Huffington Post. Her hybrid memoir, She I Dare Not Name, A Spinster’s Meditations on Life, was published by Allen & Unwin in 2020. Throughout 2022, Donna campaigned on the unique challenges facing single people, particularly women without children. In 2023, in collaboration with Ketaki Chowkhani at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, she brought together singlehood researchers from around the world to establish the International Singles Studies Association. In 2024 she presented at the Third International Singles Studies Conference in Boston, USA, established Singlehood Australia, and instigated the International Singlehood Advocacy Network. Donna is our Australian authority and global thought leader on singlehood, she is affiliated wtih Antwerp University, a fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies, and a dedicated advocate for the economic equality and social inclusion of all single people, particularly single women without children.
